Gorey Hill School, Gorey, Co. Wexford is a Special School that provides an appropriate education for students, aged 4 to 18 years old, who have a diagnosis of autism and complex learning needs or complex learning needs, with a professional recommendation for a Special School who require the support of a Special School setting.

Gorey Hill School is under the patronage of Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB).

The student must have reached 4 years on or before 31st August of the school academic year for which they seek enrolment. To facilitate this age band, the range of classes extend from primary to post primary and are based on relevant and appropriate peer groupings and the individual needs of each child.

As per the Department of Education regulations, students will leave school at the end of the school year in which they reach the age of 18 years old.

The school operates within the regulations as outlined by the Rules for National Schools and relevant circulars and directives issued by the Primary/Special Education sections of the Department of Education. The school is funded by grants from the Department of Education. Staffing allocations are in line with those set out by the Department of Education.

Under the direction of WWETB, the school will be managed on an interim basis by a Single Manager pending the appointment of a Board of Management. The Board of Management is made up of representatives of WWETB, parents, school staff and the community.

Gorey Hill School delivers the curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education and adapted to meet the educational needs of each student. A variety of methodologies and strategies are adopted to maximise the students’ learning potential. Supported by the child’s multidisciplinary team, the teachers and staff provide a caring and challenging learning environment which fosters personal, social and academic development. All students have an Individual Educational Plan designed specifically for them.

Forging meaningful relationships with the students, their parent(s)/guardian(s) and all involved in their care and education, is essential to ensuring a quality educational experience for our learners.

Admission Information

As we have just recently opened and are busy settling students into their new surroundings, we are not able to respond to individual queries at the moment.  Therefore, if your query relates to admissions, please note the following.

 

2024/25 School Year

All 24 places for 2024/25 are currently filled.  Applications can still be made using the application form available at the bottom of this page.

However, if deemed eligible for admission i.e. the applicant meets the criteria for a place in Gorey Hill School, the applicant would be placed on a waiting list for the 2024/25 school year only.  If a place becomes available, it would be offered to applicants from the waiting list.  If those on the waiting list are not offered a place during the 2024/25 school year an application must be made for the 2025/26 school year.

 

2025/26 School Year

6 places are available in Gorey Hill School for 2025/26.  Applications for admission will be accepted from Monday 11th November 2024.  The Admission Policy, Admission Notice and Application Form are available below or on request from goreyhillschool@wwetb.ie.  Please ensure that you complete the application form for the correct school year.

 

Please note that all applications will require evidence as set out in the Admissions Policy that the applicant is eligible for a place in Gorey Hill School which are listed below and proof of residence (including Eircode).  Intending applicants should read the current admission policy for details of evidence required i.e. the type and dates of reports

 

Has diagnosis of Moderate or Severe/Profound General Learning Disability and Autism

OR

Has diagnosis of Moderate or Severe/Profound General Learning Disability

AND

Has a professional recommendation for a special school placement

 

Applicants with a diagnosis of Autism only or Mild General Learning Disability are not eligible for a place in Gorey Hill School.
