From developing your business plan to mastering essential digital strategies, our comprehensive program equips you with everything you need to succeed.

Duration:

This is a full-time course, where learners spend a minimum of 12 hours per week in a classroom setting where they gain the knowledge and skills to start a business.

A full-time commitment is required from the learner through a combination of onsite class attendance and work practice to achieve their objective of starting their own business.

While attending this course, you will continue to receive your social welfare entitlements, regardless of any profit you may make from your business.

You will cover the following topics:

Year 1

  • Market analysis, including customer and competitor research, product and service definition, routes to market.
  • Market planning, including marketing and promotional tools.
  • Digital Marketing – Full digital marketing strategy.
  • Customer Service incorporating consumer legislation.
  • Basic accounts, financial management and cash flow management
  • Computerised and manual accounts.
  • Sales skills and techniques, meeting, and telephone skills.

 

Year 2

  • Tailored accounts training to suit your particular business.
  • Full Business Plan development and implementation, including business mentoring.
  • Comprehensive market planning and mentoring.
  • Web Presence development and publication.
  • Advanced Digital Marketing and e-Business implementation.
  • E- tools – Video editing and digital content creation.
  • Assistance with grant application for your business.
  • Development of a Corporate Identity/Branding for your business.
  • Tailored elements, which match your individual requirements.

The course leads to QQI Level 5 certification in Business Studies (QQI Award 5M2102)

Eligibility: You must satisfy VTOS criteria to qualify for entry. You must be in receipt of a social welfare payment and be aged over 21 years. Courses are free of charge.

Childcare Assistance: Childcare assistance may be available to VTOS learners through the National Childcare Scheme.

Enrolment Details: Courses commence in late August. Places are limited, apply early to avoid disappointment.

Adult Literacy & Language Programme

We offer free courses in basic skills to adults who left school early, have been out of education for a long time or would like to improve their skills for work, study or everyday life.

Our courses include basic skills in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Computers, Smart Phones, Maths and English Language. All our courses are taught in small groups and are relaxed and friendly
