Skills to Compete – Introduction To TV Sports Broadcasting including Podcasting

The aim of the course is to provide learners with the skill, knowledge and competencies to successfully enter the Sports TV Broadcasting sector. Successful completion of this course will enable learners to be competent in the fundamentals of sports broadcasting. This includes the roles and responsibilities of each team member, the flow of live events, and the essential elements of a successful broadcast. Learners will also learn the basics of Podcasting

Education Requirements
Junior Certificate or equivalent

Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.


Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, a strong interest in digital media and sport and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.


Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative.

5- Use of Social Media in Live Sports Productions
Use social media to promote and showcase live sports broadcasts and to effectively leverage social media in the dynamic environment of live sports production

6- Live Sports Producer
Work as a producer at live sports productions

7- Floor Manager for Live TV Sports Production
Work as a Floor Manager at live sports productions. It will combine theoretical
knowledge with extensive practical experience, preparing students to excel as floor managers
in the fast-paced environment of live TV sports production.

8- Broadcast Co-ordinator for Live Sport
Work as a Broadcast Co-ordinator (BCO) at live sports productions. It will
combine theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience, preparing students to excel as BCO’s in the fast-paced environment of live TV sports production

9- Telestrator, Statistics for Live Sports & Single Camera Operations
Work as a Telestrator at live sports productions use a camera to record at matches.

11- Introduction to Podcasting
Demonstrate and understand the basic principles of podcasting

12- Career Planning and Job Seeking Skills
Plan and achieve realistic work goals.

13- Work Placement
Undertake a range of vocationally specific tasks and activities in the workplace.
