Essential Skills in Classic Car Restoration
The aim of the programme is to provide the learners with the essential skills required in light restoration work to be carried out on classic cars or motorbikes

Enthusiastic with a strong work ethic.
An interview process will be carried to determine each candidates suitability for the programme
Age Requirements
Must have reached the statutory school leaving age
Learning Aptitude
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of an interest in and knowledge of this industry.
Good verbal and written command of the English language is also required.
Ability to follow direction and work on own initiative.
Previous Experience
No previous experience required. The programme is open to anyone who has an interest in the
repairing and up keep of classic cars, motor bikes and light commercial vehicles.

1-INDUCTION
State the planned outcomes and the conditions attached to attendance on the course; apply good safety, health and hygiene practices; state the basic principle involved in environmental issues and explain the meaning of equal opportunities.
2-SKILLS IN HEALTH, SAFETY AND GOOD HOUSEKEEPING IN THE AUTOMATIVE ENVIRONMENT
Carry out day to day work area cleaning, clearing away, and dealing with spillages and disposal of waste, used materials and debris. Identify hazards and risks in the automotive environment and complying with relevant legislation and good practice. Work safely at all times within the automotive environment, both as an individual and with others.
3-SKILLS IN TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN VEHICLE REFINISHING
Select, maintain and use of hand and power tools used in vehicle refinishing. prepare, use and maintenance of vehicle refinishing equipment
4-SKILLS IN MOTOR VEHICLE BODY PANEL MAJOR REPAIRS
Carry out major repairs to motor vehicle body panels using a variety of techniques. It also covers the evaluation of the repair once completed.
5-SKILLS IN MOTOR VEHICLE BODY METAL ACTIVE GAS (MAG) WELDING TECHNIQUES
Join materials using Metal Active Gas (MAG) welding techniques. It also covers the evaluation of the completed welded component.
6-SKILLS IN MOTOR VEHICLE BODY METAL INSERT GAS (MIG) BRAZING OPERATIONS
Join materials correctly and effectively using Metal Inert Gas (MIG) brazing techniques and procedures. It also covers the evaluation of the completed brazed component.
7-SKILLS IN PREPARING METAL AND PRE-PAINTED SURFACES
Carry out the preparation of a wide variety of different panels and component surfaces to accept foundation/paint topcoat materials.
8-SKILLS IN ESTABLISHING PAINT DEFECTS
Identify and repair a range of paint faults that often require the removal of materials to a sound substrate in order for rectification to take place.
9-SKILLS IN APPLYING TOPCOATS AND COMPLETING REFINSIHING OPERATIONS
Follow guidelines and procedures for the refinishing of new and repaired vehicle panels. Including the preparation of the surface panel and application of the topcoat.
