Literacy Skills – Craft QQI Level 2

The aim of this programme is multi purpose. The knowledge, skill and competence acquired on this programme are relevant to personal development and participation in society, community and employment and provides a basis for further progression. The programme covers the acquirement of basic knowledge, skills and competencies in a narrow range of fields of learning including key outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

Objectives of the Programme Module
– Help the learner gain practical experience in the use of basic craft materials, tools and
resources.
– Enable the learner to produce and present one complete craft item.
– Assist the learner to develop the basic literacy and numeracy skills related to craft through
the medium of the module themes and content.
– To enable the learner to learn how to learn in a well- structured and supervised
environment.

Education Requirements
No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 1 when accessing a Level 2 programme.

Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.


Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate an elementary range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to work under direction.

Learners will be able to:
1. Use the language and terminology associated with the craft, materials, tools and process.
2. Use a range of tools and equipment to achieve different craft effects.
3. Take adequate safety precautions as directed.
4. Construct a simple craft item according to instructions/plan/directions.
5. Present the craft item.
6. Identify preferred parts of the process and product.
7. Identify commonly available craft items using the same materials/processes.
