Digital Literacy – Computer Skills and Using Technology (QQI Level 2)

This course is all about learning how to use a laptop.
You will learn how to access the internet, and find information safely.
You will also learn how to use the basic functions of Microsoft Word.
This course is confidence-building, and will be a small group. The learning space is welcoming, friendly and non-judgmental.
This course is especially for you, if you have less than Junior Certificate education, or less than secondary education.
This can be a first step back into education, or an improvers course for anyone who is building their technology skills.

Education Requirements
No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 1 when accessing a Level 2 programme.

Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.


Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate an elementary range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to work under direction.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:
1. Turn a personal computer on and off safely.
2. Use frequently-used keys appropriately, e.g. enter, space bar, upper and lower case, delete.
3. Use a software package, involving opening a package, entering and manipulating text/image/data, save to file, print and exit safely.
4. Identify common information/symbols.
5. Access websites on the internet.
6. Name some benefits of electronically stored information packages and the internet

This course will also include TTRS (Touch Type Read Spell)
