This is the second year of the Accounting Technician Programme.
Programme Aim
The aim of the programme is to provide candidates with expertise, experience and knowledge in accounting, in the areas such as financial accounting and budgeting, costing and credit control, payroll and tax returns for various types of business.
Accounting Technicians will possess the knowledge, skills and competencies to either work on their own or alongside professional accountants. The programme has been designed to provide business with personnel who are skilled in accounting techniques.

School leavers should have a Leaving Certificate with pass grades in:
5 Ordinary level subjects (including English and Maths/Accountancy)
2 Ordinary level and 2 Higher level subjects (including English and Maths or Accountancy

Learners who are sitting the Applied Leaving Certificate should contact the (register@AccountingTechniciansIreland.ie) directly for advice on whether they are eligible or Learners under 21 who have successfully completed a nationally recognized qualification such as QQI, QQI (Level 5), QCA or a BTEC National Diploma may also be eligible to apply.
Prior Learning may provide an entry route for applicants who do not meet any of the above
criteria. Those who have successfully completed a nationally recognised qualification such as
QQI and QQI in the Republic of Ireland or QCA and BTEC National Diploma in Northern
Ireland may be eligible to register.
Additionally, applicants must have achieved a pass in at least 3 subjects in First Year Accounting Technicians Ireland course, including both Financial Accounting and Taxation. The pass mark is 50% for all subjects.
NFQ Level 5 in a relevant discipline when accessing a Level 6 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Age Requirements
Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)
Learning Aptitude
Good verbal and written communication skills are desirable. Accuracy in the use of numbers.
Appropriate aptitude tests may be applied.
Previous Experience
Previous experience in book-keeping and / or accountancy desirable. Experience in using web based learning is an advantage.

The successful completion of the Diploma for Accounting Technicians will enable applicants to source a variety of work within the accounting profession including auditing, assurance work, corporate finance, tax planning and insolvency.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this programme candidates will have developed further knowledge and understanding of more advanced issues and concepts in Financial Accounting and Taxation They will demonstrate a proficiency in the use of standard software packages used in business and will have the technical competency in the area of management accounting to support business functions, activities and decision-making.
