2024/2025- Leaving Certificate Applied Programme (Year 1)

The Leaving Certificate Applied Programme is a two year Leaving Certificate programme available to students who wish to follow a practical programme with a strong practical and vocational emphasis. It is one of three Leaving Certificate options offered by the Department of Education and Skills.

The Leaving Certificate Applied programme has been developed by the
National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. This programme is part
of the expanded senior cycle provision designed to cater for the diversity
of participants’ needs.

Education Requirements
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This Leaving Certificate course demands a high level of commitment from the learner and a good standard of reading, writing and maths is required. Having a Junior Certificate standard would be a definite advantage. Learners must have the capacity to work with others from diverse social, linguistic and cultural backgrounds; engage in critical and creative thinking and take responsibility for their own learning.

Learning Outcomes
The Leaving Certificate Applied programmes recognises the talents of all participants and provides an opportunity for them to develop in terms of responsibility, self-esteem and self-knowledge. During this programme participants will also have the opportunity to develop communication and decision making skills to help them achieve a more independent and enterprising approach to learning and to life.

Applicants must be aged between 16-21 years of age. Eligible to apply to the Youthreach programme (ie over 16 & out of school with no prospect of returning) and eligible to enter Year 1 of the Leaving Certificate Applied programme.

Applicants who have not completed secondary school (and are no longer attending) or have not passed the Leaving Certificate exams full are eligible to apply.
