Medical Administration

The aim of the programme is to provide learners with the skill, knowledge and competencies to provide administrative support in a medical office environment including office administration; audio transcription and medical records management. This course provides students with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work within a efficient medical administration office or hospital setting.

On successful completion of the programme, learners may progress to further education and training.

Applicants should have achieved a minimum of a QQI Level 4 Major Award or its equivalent.

Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.

Good numerical and communication skills are essential, including verbal and written command of the English language.

Understand how information is processed within organisations and the various systems and methods in use and to enable the learner to operate effectively, under supervision in a range of organisations. Produce a range of documents to a mailable standard, within a minimum speed of 35 words per minute. Demonstrate the use of Word Processing software to produce documents in a variety of contexts to a mailable or publishable standard. Operate an audio transcription unit and apply appropriate written language and formatting to transcribe documents,use a range of reference materials as required, use business and/or vocationally specific vocabulary and terminology correctly, follow dictated instructions to produce standard mailable documents and attain minimum production standards of 40 wpm and 97% accuracy. Describe the structure and function of the human body and the interrelationship between it’s systems. Display a knowledge of a wide range of medical terminology applicable and relevant to a medical receptionist or secretarial role in a medical practice, clinic and or hospital context. Work in an organisation or specific vocational context, carrying out vocationally related tasks over a period of time, independently while under general supervision. Plan and achieve realistic work goals.

Employability Statement
The successful completion of the QQI Major L5 Award in Business Administration will enable applicants to source employment in the area of medical administrative support in a medical office environment to include office administration, audio transcription and medical records management.
