The aim of the programme is to provide the learners with the skills and related knowledge in reading of drawings, Manual Metal Arc Welding, M.I.G. Welding and T.I.G. Welding and to develop their attitudes, personal effectiveness and job seeking skills to enable them to obtain employment as welders.

1. INDUCTION
State the planned outcomes and the conditions attached to attendance on the course; apply good safety, health and hygiene practices; state the basic principle involved in environmental issues and explain the meaning of equal opportunities.

2. MOUNTING OF ABRASIVE WHEELS
To provide the trainees with the skills and knowledge which will enable them to mount abrasive wheels in accordance with current, relevant safety regulations/legislation and guidance documentation HSG 17.

3. READING BASIC TECHNICAL DRAWINGS
Read and interpret basic technical drawing.

4. MACHINE TOOLS (WELDING)
Use the following machines and tools that are associated with welding in a safe and proper method: a) Angle Grinder. b) Bench Grinder. c) Belt Sanders. d) Band Saw. e) Abrasive Wheel

5. MANUAL METAL ARC WELDING
Weld arc fillet welds in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions to complete ‘lapp fillet’, ‘tee fillet’ and ‘butt’ joints.

6. M.I.G. WELDING
Weld mild steel lap joints, tee joints and outside corner joints in the 2F and 3F position.

7. T.I.G. STAINLESS STEEL WELD
Weld mild steel and stainless steel plate plate in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions to complete ‘lapp fillet’ and ‘tee fillet’ joints.

8. T.I.G. ALUMINIUM WELD
Weld mild steel and aluminium plate in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions to complete ‘lapp fillet’ and ‘tee fillet’ joints.

9. OXY-ACETYLENE CUTTING
To provide trainees with the skill and knowledge which will enable them to use oxy-acetylene cutting equipment to cut mild steel plate of various thickness.

10. SAFEPASS
Work on construction sites without being a risk to themselves or to others. Note: As an 8 hour duration within one day, is a mandatory requirement to complete this Safepass module, it is important that the training centres extend their day to 8 hours in order to accommodate this requirement.

11. CAREER PLANNING AND JOB SEEKING SKILLS
Plan and achieve realistic work goals.

12. IN-COMPANY
Demonstrate a broad range of occupational competencies in a real work environment.
