Skills To Compete – Welding Fabrication Traineeship (Traineeship)

The purpose of this programme is to enable the trainee to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work in Fabrication – basic skills, manual metal arc welding, TIG welding, MIG welding and to develop their attitudes, personal effectiveness and job seeking skills which will enable them to obtain employment as welders/fabricators

Start Date: 07-10-2024 Hours/week: 31 Hrs 15 Mins Duration: 34 weeks

Education Requirements
Junior Certificate standard or its equivalent.

Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.

1- INDUCTION
To introduce the learners to the training and learning environment; to provide learners with guidelines on safety, local centre rules and regulations, personal welfare and learning techniques, to create and develop an awareness of environmental issues within the workplace and the various sectors of industry, to develop and apply a positive attitude toward equal opportunities.

2-MOUNTING OF ABRASIVE WHEELS
To provide the trainees with the skills and knowledge which will enable them to mount abrasive wheels in accordance with current, relevant safety regulations/legislation and guidance documentation HSG 17.

3- MACHINE TOOLS (WELDING)
To provide trainees with the skills and knowledge to use angle grinders, bench grinders, belt sanders and band saws associated with welding.

4- MANUAL METAL ARC WELDING
To provide the trainees with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to weld metal arc fillet welds in horizontal and overhead positions to complete lap fillets, tee fillets and butt joints.

5- M.I.G WELDING
To provide the trainees with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to use M.I.G. welding equipment to weld lap joints in the 2F and 3F positions, tee joints in the 2F and 3F positions and outside corner joints in the 2F and 3F positions.

6 – T.I.G. WELDING
To provide the trainees with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to use T.I.G. welding equipment to weld lap joints in the 2F and 3F position and tee joints in the 2F and 3F position in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium plate.

7- SAFEPASS
To provide the learners with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to work on construction sites without being a danger to themselves or others.

8 – PLATEWORK FABRICATION OF MATERIALS
To provide the learners with the skills and knowledge in basic fabrication techniques

9- CAREER PLANNING AND JOB SEEKING SKILLS
To provide learners with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to plan and achieve realistic work goals.

10- WORK PLACEMENT
To provide the learners with an opportunity to further develop their skills, knowledge and attitudes in a real work environment allied to their chosen occupation.

11 – OXY-ACETYLENE CUTTING
To provide the learners with the skills, knowledge and attitudes which will enable them to cut straight lines, circles and shapes in mild steel.

12- THEORY OF WELDING
To provide the learners with the skills, knowledge and attitude with regard to welding theory, standards, procedures and their responsibilities with regard third party safety.

13- RTITB COUNTERBALANCE FORKLIFT TRUCK SKILLS – RTITB
To equip the learners with the knowledge, skill and competence to operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck safely and efficiently in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines and current health and safety regulations and guidelines.
