Skills to Compete Manual and Computerised Payroll and Bookkeeping
On completion of the training programme learners will be able to operate both a manual and
computerised book keeping and payroll system within an organisation; to include set up,
processing, maintenance and security.
Employability Statement
The successful completion of this programme will enable applicants to find employment in an
office operating under general direction and supervision, a manual and computerised book
keeping and payroll system to include set up, processing, maintenance and security of system.

Applicants seeking entry to the programme should have achieved a minimum of a QQI Level 4 Major
Award or its equivalent.
Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.
Learning Aptitude
Good numerical and communication skills are essential, including verbal and written command of
the English language.

1- Examine the requirements of the payroll function
2- Discuss its importance within an organisation;
3- Set up, process and maintain both a manual/computerised payroll system;
4- Analyse the importance of paying employees the correct wage in a timely fashion;
5- Discuss the impact of changes in tax legislation for the employee.
6- Operate both a manual book keeping system from source documents up to trial balance and to use a computerised accounts system incorporating Debtors, Creditors, Nominal Ledgers and financial reporting system .
